Playground pimp

Dear Baby Trip,

Today we went to the playground for the first time, ignoring the 60 degree temps and misty fog. You had a killer time on the swings and even made nice with a cute one year old cougar named Veda who was swinging next to you. You guys had a lot in common, mainly that you both wanted to eat the swing.

Tomorrow we are making our first trip up to Santa Rosa to see Oma. Here's hoping it's a smooth trip!

Super duper fun!

Exersaucer: I will kiiillll you!

Weeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

New highchair! We're in the final countdown to starting solids! T thinks this is his throne.

Chillin with my Dada

Looking cute, as usual.

Chillin in the Chilly Park

Dear Baby Trip,

What a fun day we had today! We met up with your friend Lily and her Big Heads at The Beach Chalet, ocean front tourist trap extrordinaire, where they were hosting a Save The Ocean type benefit for families. They have a big, green back lawn that was filled with screaming rugrats (I mean frolicking children) and a kids' band whose repertoire ran the gamut from the catchy "Peanut Butter and Jelly" song to "We Want the Funk." We spread out some blankets, had some snacks and drinks and played and danced. We barely noticed it was about 60 degrees and foggy as all get out. Mama took you to the front for a bit and you rocked out to the beats and loved watching the other little kids wiggle around. I knew you had it in you, T.

Dada and Uncle Bobby deep in conversation about strollers or nap schedules.

Some call it a chocolate, marshmallow, caramel and graham cracker crumb covered apple. Others just wish you would stop talking and show respect for the most ingenious thing you can do to a piece of fruit.

Why Mommy, why???

"A priest, a rabbi and a camel walk into a bar..."

Child free humans' worst nightmare.

Raspberries are my specialty this week.

Four tushies.

Shout out to the Crazy Dutchie side of the Fam.

Ahhh...summer in San Francisco. At least we don't have to worry about the chemicals in sunscreen irritating your skin.

Meanwhile on the home front:

This book is FASCINATING Mommy.

This fun activity....

...Begets this not so fun result.

Fabulous five months!

Dear Baby Trip,

Holy five months little boy!! What a ride! Every moment is a blessing with you T. We might smell like sour milk spit up and have bags under our eyes that require a luggage tag, but your infectious laugh, gummy smile and the feel of your head snuggling onto our necks is so very worth it. Sometimes I have to just hold you tight and breathe your little Trip essence in.

Oh Yeah!

Uh Oh!

Oh Nooo!

Dada keeps me squeaky clean.....

....So I can be ready for the ladies (Hello lady, Come on over and sit with me).

Aunt Ellie is back in Holland now, but I am so, so glad that you got to meet her. She is one of those really special people to me, and I will always cherish seeing her sing to you and play with you.

While we can never replace our all time favorite friend Sophie the Giraffe, we did want to introduce your fans to a couple other friends in the inner circle:

First we have Mr. Dragon. He plays fun music when you press his head and has chew rings that are sooo delicious. For full effect, Mama must sing along to Mr. Dragon's music.

We also have Mr. Gamba. Mr. Gamba belongs to an infamous crime family and he speaks in a gruff, Italian accent and refers to "swimming with the fishes" a lot. Dada does a great Mr. Gamba impersonation.

And here you are checking out Trigger. You are still a bit small for big bouncing, but you like the music.

We knew you when....

Dear Baby Trip,

Just a quickie to show off your famous face. Our photographer is using your sweet face (and ours!) in her new ads. Is it hard to be so irresistibly cute?

If you live in SF, grab Jennifer for some pics! She is a steal and she did wonders with a cranky baby.

Say my name, say my name....

Dear baby Trip,

It's been another big week around here. Today we had 5 month shots. You pitched a 30 second fit and then were a trooper. You medicated with some Tylenol and Mama medicated by proxy with her first Margarita in over a year.

Lat night you cheered on Tim Lincecum in your first All Star game. You feel a special affinity for him since you guys are almost the same age.

You also sported one of the personalized diapers your great grandma had made for you. Whose tushie is cuter than yours???

Mama bought you a few new toys, including this one, which you are Ninja kicking more than I think was intended by Baby Einstein. Oh well.

We had another good visit with Aunt Ellie and posse. She sings to you in Dutch. I am pretty sure your quarter Dutch side is understanding....well, at least 25% of what she says.

Some other yummy baby moments...

Sometimes you have a few out takes before you get to the sweet photos!

Dada, Quit trying to show off my junk!

Baby kisses!!!

Just chillin in my track pants

Plastic Fantastic!

Dear Baby Trip,

Well hello Mr. 20 Weeks! The time is just flying by, little boy. These days we get out quite a bit. While you still do not love your car seat, we get through most trips tear free as long as I do some loud, off key singing. Naps may be getting a little more consistent and we are getting a nice bedtime routine going that includes jammies and a nice rubdown by Dada every night. I may have written this before, but we look forward to getting you in bed every night so we can relax a little, but within an hour one of us invariably says, "I miss him." We love you so much Trip. It pours out of our hearts.

In my quest to add more plastic contraptions to the living room, we found an exersaucer calling to us on Craigslist. You are digging it. Here's a few shots of your first go in this monstrosity.

You also managed to sit up unassisted for a few seconds yesterday. Have I mentioned your genius status? By the time I got out the camera you were sinking fast, but here is the end of your superstar feat:

This is fun...

Or maybe not.........

This was followed by you folding completely in half and starting to cry. Well, there's always tomorrow...

Here's a little chewing, sneezing, talking and arm flapping. Arm flapping when you get excited is your new trick.

Crushed and blushed

Dear Baby Trip,

This week finds Mommy pretty crushed about having to go back to work. I do not underestimate how lucky we are that you do not have to go to day care, and that Oma and Daddy will take great care of you while I work and sleep, but I am so heartbroken that I have to leave you, and I worry that I will be so tired from the night shift that I will not be able to give you every ounce of attention that I want to. We'll have to see how it all goes. Hopefully you'll sleep most of the time I am gone and be too busy having fun while I sleep. I think about you all night while I am gone, that is for sure.

On a lighter note, yesterday we stopped by a fancy, shmancy jewelry store in a fancy, shmancy neighborhood so I could get my rings inspected. While you were charming the pants off of the staff I started to smell something that made me blush.

Oh. My. God. I ask again, how can a breastfed baby have gas like this? I left that store in a hurry, with your cloud of baby stink trailing behind us.

Later in the day as we played airplane and as you swung happily above my head, you proceeded to barf. In my mouth. Good times, Trip. Good times.

These people are not my Big Heads (Fourth of July).

Love my Mama!

Riding on Trigger!

I thought it was a good time to introduce everyone to your dear friend Sophie the Giraffe. Don't ask me what it is that babies find so seductive about this 20$ squeak toy, but there are days I think you might pick Sophie over Mommy in a showdown.

Tastes so goooood.

Nekkie time with Sophie

B Ball time with Sophie (see her hiding under your arm?). Note to grown ups: Try as he might, T does not really watch TV.

More nekkie time with Sophie

Cuddle time with Sophie!

(Don't mind Dada's sigh at the end of the clip)
