...and a half

Dear Baby Trip,

Yesterday you had your one month doctor's appointment (a week late, but who's counting?). You weigh 9-9 and you are 22 1/2 inches. Dr Kaplan says you "have a penis and a half." We are so proud...sort of.

You are starting to like (or at least tolerate) your swing and bouncy seat a bit. We are pretty happy about the few minutes it affords us to do important things like eat, drink and comment to each other about how tired we are. You also like to lay under your play gym (thanks Uncle Jerry and Aunt Trish) and we finally found a carrier you like to ride in. It was the one that cost 120$. Definitely my baby.

You have your pants off in the last couple of pics, hence the joy in your face! Having your pants off is your favorite thing EVER.

Gran and Big Daddy visit

Dear Baby Trip,

Today your Gran and Big Daddy left after a nice visit. You got lots of extra snuggles and love while they were here. It was pretty cool to see Joseph Sr, Jr and III all together. We took some nice walks in the park and Gran helped give you a bath too. You loved that!

We are so tickled to see you smiling quite a lot. You continue to love to have your diaper off when we change you and you love when Daddy eats your nose and Mommy kisses your tummy.

You also weigh over 9 pounds and you are eating really well. Hello double chin and baby boobies! You turned one month on St Patrick's Day. We gave you a Guinness to celebrate (not really).

Whew!

Dear Baby Trip,

It's been a tiring few days. You have been going through your first big growth spurt and we all feel like we've been running a marathon.

We went to pick up the pictures from your two week photo session, and my heart melted when I saw how cute you looked and how small you seemed, even though it is only days later.

Meanwhile, you continue to treat us with little smiles here and there; especially when Daddy sings to you at diaper changes. You two have your own thing going on, and watching you gaze up at him is pretty wonderful. Plus, he's got a way with the Desetin.

Three weeks old already!

Dear Baby Trip,

Today is your three week birthday. How fast the time is going.

Today I put away my maternity clothes, and I must admit it made me a little sad. It's great to be back in at least some of my regular clothes, but it reminds me that you are out in the world now and that I am sharing you with everyone else. It made me miss our shared kicks and wiggles and hiccups. I miss rubbing my belly and feeling your hips and your tush. But oh, it is so amazing to look at your face and give your soft little head kisses. So, away go the fabulous maternity jeans and all the other comfy clothes. And maybe I need to do a little shopping to feel better!

Yesterday my friend Tristan came by to visit you. She lives in New York and is one of Mommy's favorite people. She brought you a cute outfit and you thanked her by peeing all over her expensive black pants that she needs to wear the rest of the week for business. This was preceded by you peeing all over Mommy's pants about fifteen minutes prior. I told her you have never done this before, but I don't think she was buying it. Just for kicks you also had a blowout while she visited. It was a lot of onesies to go through in 90 minutes.

8 pounds!

Dear Baby Trip,

This morning you spent some time in bed with Daddy, while he read Cormac McCarthy. Then Daddy and I took you to Day One to check your weight. You have officially passed the 8 pound mark.

It was a nice sunny day and we had fun strolling you around Laurel Village, and you made your first foray into the grocery store too. You had your eyes wide open the whole time, and I can imagine it was a lot of new sites and smells. You had a lot of admirers too. Who can resist your scrumptious face?

You seem to be getting more involved in the world every day. You stay awake longer and look around a lot, and you love to stare at your mommy and daddy (and let's be honest, we spend a lot of time staring at you too). We can't wait for you to start smiling. Right now we take those gas smiles and pretend like they are real.

Almost two weeks

Dear Baby Trip,

I can't believe you are almost two weeks old already. You continue to change in little ways, but mostly you are still the delicious little baby with big feet. We went for our two week pediatrician appointment today, and you are doing so well. You are almost 8 pounds now and you grew half an inch, to 20.5.

We are enjoying every moment with you, including the sleepless nights. You seem to think bedtime is about 4 PM and morning around 1 AM. We are attempting to convince you otherwise. You'r egoing to get it soon, right?

Hiccups are funny...13 days old.

Week Two!

Dear Baby Trip,

You are twelve days old today. You might not believe it, but already we can see you changing. Your hair is getting darker and you now weigh 7lb 10.5 oz. Good job! Nursing you is hard work, and sometimes a struggle, but we'll keep trying.

Right now Daddy is holding you skin to skin, and you are happy as can be snuggled on his warm chest. He's reading a book while you snooze. We gave you another bath today and this time you barely cried. One day I will show your girlfriend these bath pictures. It's inevitable, and I apologize in advance.

The fabulous Gades stopped by and brought us homemade enchiladas and got to meet you. They are good people, and not just because they brought us dinner. And not just because said dinner includes a pint of Haagen Daaz, although that would be reason enough.

Drunk on breast milk. Too tired to swallow.
